DR Congo: Too Soon to Walk Away

Sexual violence remains a horrific phenomenon in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) despite international focus on the problem. Recurrent incidents of mass rape, as well as a disturbingly high num¬ber of individual cases of sexual violence, continue to be re¬ported, and the response to the needs of survivors is fre¬quently too slow. Nonetheless, a concerted effort by donors and the UN to combat sexual violence in DRC has seen some impact. Read this report on DRC’s “comprehensive strategy on sexual violence” that was drafted by UN Action on Sexual Violence in Conflict and then adopted by the DRC government.
