New Partners Get Moving!

From the 23rd to 26th of June, 10 member organizations from Namibia, Tanzania, Sudan, DRC, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa and Uganda converged in Kampala to begin their Get Moving! journey. Participants from these organizations as well as the Network Coordinating Office spent the days discussing what values underlie strong, rights-based VAW prevention work. The discussions recognized the most significant element as personalizing the work by beginning our own journey of recognizing injustice in our everyday lives and the systemic nature of discrimination against women. Together we analyzed men’s power over women and how that leads to VAW. We explored what it means to be an activist and how to take action as an individual and as part of a collective. We also explored myths and facts around women’s rights work. The process was a deep reflection infused with interaction and an emphasis of self-care. Participants ended the week by examining the tools required to implement Get Moving! in their organizations. They will facilitate the process in their organization building on a collective of organizations with politicized VAW work in the region.
