In Her Shoes aims to personally connect participants with some possible experiences of women living with violence, and the barriers they face when seeking counsel for their situations. As the participant works through several days in the shoes of this woman, they have opportunities to seek help from a variety of resources, including family and friends, health, legal and counseling services, religious leaders, and others.

In the kit is a handbook that provides detailed guidance for facilitators, relevant information on violence against women, discussion questions and ideas for action, 10 story sets depicting a woman experiencing violence in Sub-Saharan Africa, and 16 station cards. This process helps to inspire each of us to develop a greater sense of empathy for survivors of violence, as well as engage more profoundly with the realities of VAW.
