In Her Shoes engages with people from all walks of life, some of who may never have experienced violence in their home or community. This toolkit is designed to help increase our empathy for those who have experienced VAW. In alliance with the InterCambios Technical Secretariat of Latin America, over 100 members within the GBV Prevention Network worked to adapt a 2006 version of In Her Shoes into a Sub-Saharan African context. Though the stories in the toolkit were ultimately different, the fundamental goals remained the same: Increasing knowledge and awareness of the difficulties faced by women who experience violence, illustrating that violence against women is both a community and global problem, analyzing the capacities of the different institutions to attend to women who are living in or confronting situations of violence and seeking help, and encouraging participants to actively think of ways they can work to prevent violence against women.
