Domestic Violence Act Coalition in Uganda Lobby’s the Speaker of Parliament for Implementation of the Law

On August 19th 2014, 20 representatives of the Domestic Violence Act Coalition reached out to the Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga. In their meeting with her, they sought her support for allocation of funds to implementation of the Domestic Violence Act (DVA) that was passed in 2010. As a result, the speaker of Parliament asked her office to contact the chairperson of the Gender Parliamentary Committee to meet with the DVA coalition to discuss allocation of funds before the end of the 2014/15 budget review processes. Thanks to the Speaker, The Gender Parliamentary committee met with the DVA coalition on August 20th 2014. The Committee committed to support funding for DVA by engaging with the ministry concerned to provide specific budget lines.
